I thought Russell Crowe 'as Australian as they come' - Lorde

Kiwi pop superstar Lorde has admitted to being completely unaware Hollywood actor Russell Crowe was born in New Zealand - saying she thought he was "as Australian as they come".

The 'Green Light' hitmaker's confession came while playing a pub trivia game during an interview with Australian radio station Triple J hosts Ben and Liam on Thursday morning.

After correctly answering questions about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the green light's position on a traffic signal, the North Shore local was unable to name where Crowe was born.

In fact, she didn't even recognise his voice from his most iconic on-screen moment in Gladiator - but after the hosts mocked her for that, they were shocked to learn she thought he was a true-blue Aussie.

"You're spitting on your home nation here! This is unbelievable!" Liam exclaimed.

"We try and claim him here - he's actually yours. We've done such a good job at convincing the Kiwis that he isn't a Kiwi."

Lorde, clearly smarting from not knowing where Crowe was from, was able to lay down some facts of her own however - the 20-year-old revealing she knew the actor was the owner of NRL team the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Fair dinkum - but just don't go asking her about the origins of Phar Lap or pavlova any time soon.
