Women-only sessions of Wonder Woman upset men

  • 26/05/2017

A cinema chain in the US sold out its first ever women-only session in a matter of hours, but is now facing a boycott by some angry men.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas announced that a special upcoming screening of Wonder Woman would only let in women customers and be staffed entirely by women, as a celebration of "girl power".

After the first session sold out so quickly, more have been added and the company says it intends to expand them to Drafthouse cinemas across the US.

On social media the move is being praised by many commenters, but the cinema chain is also being hit with claims of "sexism" and "misandry", with some angry men threatening to "never set foot" in Drafthouse theatres again.

Alamo Drafthouse has been replying to many of the comments with varying amounts of sass - for example, by acknowledging that they haven't held men-only sessions before, but did screen the Entourage movie.
