Sony's remake of Flatliners has had its first trailer released, teasing a flashy, very modern take on the creepy, cult 1990 film.
Joel Schumacher's original starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts, four medical students experiment on 'near death' experiences that involve past tragedies until the dark consequences begin to wreak havoc.
Tasked with attaching a metaphorical defibrillator and zapping Flatliners back to life is Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev, his new cast featuring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton and Kiersey Clemons.
Sutherland is also reportedly included in the new film, with the 24 star saying he's playing an aged version of his original character - making it a sequel, more than a remake, despite both films having the exact same title.
Flatliners is set for a September release in New Zealand.
