Footage has emerged of Justin Bieber having a shoe thrown at him after confessing to an audience he cannot sing his new hit 'Despacito'.

The pop star was performing at the Summerburst festival in Stockholm over the weekend when the crowd started chanting for him to sing his cover of the Luis Fonsi song.

"I can't do that specifically... I don't know the words. I can't do it," Bieber explained.

Some fans seemed fairly unhappy about it and then a shoe came flying, narrowly missing the 'Baby' singer who ducked it.

"Please don't throw things at me," he said.

Throwing shoes to express displeasure is not a new activity, although notable examples rather rare.

In hit 1997 comedy Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, the character Random Task specialised in shoe throwing.

Random Task was played by Joe Son, who was later convicted of torture and accused of rape and murder.

An Iraqi man's actions also became famous after he threw a shoe at former US President George W Bush.

The Bieber shoe thrower has yet to come forward.
