The original Batman star, Adam West, has died after a short struggle with leukemia.
The 88-year-old starred as the lead role in the popular 1960s television show which earned a cult following in later years.
He later made appearances on animated series Family Guy, playing oddball Mayor Adam West.
"Our beloved AW passed away last night. He was the greatest. We'll miss him like crazy. We know you'll miss him too," tweeted Mr West's family.
"He was our hero long before the cape," tweeted the US Defence Department.
