The kingdoms of Westeros are all banding together to fight their mutual adversary, if much is to be drawn from the new Game of Thrones trailer.

The highly acclaimed series returns next month for season 7, and rather than the Starks fighting the Lannisters and everyone else in between, it seems as though they have now resolved to join forces.

"For centuries our families fought together, against our common enemies. Despite our differences, together," Jon Snow can be heard saying.

"We need to do the same if we're going to survive, because the enemy is real - it's always been real."

Those "common enemies", as Snow refers to them as, are the powerful White Walkers, who threaten all those in Westeros.

The trailer teases a number of epic battle scenes - with at least one appearing to be between two of the kingdoms, and dragons and boats playing a large part.

But ultimately it appears as though a lot of the fighting will be between the kingdoms and the White Walkers.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives," Sansa Stark says, all but confirming the kingdoms are coming together.

The seventh season of the series starts much later in the year than previous seasons, and will see cameos from British pop singer Ed Sheeran and UFC superstar Conor McGregor, which are expected to attract a slew of new viewers.

The new season of Game of Thrones begins on July 16.
