Wonder Woman's General Antiope returning in Justice League

Warning: Wonder Woman spoilers ahead

Fans of badass Amazonian warrior General Antiope in hit film Wonder Woman will be thrilled to learn they haven't seen the last of her.

While many were crushed after the warrior was killed in the movie's epic beach battle scene, actor Robin Wright has announced she will be reprising the role in this year's Justice League.

In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Wright - along with co-stars Gal Gadot and Connie Nielsen - was asked if the Amazon leaders would return

"[Wright and I] got to do more in Justice League as well. As sisters as well... We can't say much, but ..." said Nielsen.

Wright gave away a little more, revealing audiences would get "more of the story, you get some of the history".

It will be welcome news to hungry fans of Wonder Woman, which is currently the number one movie at the global box office and has a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, lead star Godot has released a sweet message to fans thanking them for the success.

She posted a video to Facebook on Wednesday (local time) saying Wonder Woman's release was "the most amazing and craziest weekend I've had in my life."

"You made this movie what it is," says Godot to her followers.

"Your love and support for this character and myself are not to be taken for granted. Wonder Woman is the number-one movie in the whole world. This is all you. So a big thank you. I'm sending you guys all the good energy and love back."

Wonder Woman is currently in New Zealand cinemas.
