Off the back of The Edge's Tom Cruise prank on More FM's Si & Gary, we decided to unearth some of the most questionable radio pranks of all time.
Hamish and Andy: These guys hit headlines last year after their hilarious prank accidently unearthed "Aussie's best bloke." The prank involved Hamish ringing a random person and asking them to be a last minute reference for a job interview. The random guy agreed saying, "Yeah sweet, I'll just tell them that you're a ripper bloke."
Tony Blair: A radio DJ in the UK made it through the many layers of the 10 Downing Street switchboard to get put through to then Prime Minister Tony Blair. Jon Culshaw impersonated the then opposition leader, William Hague, and reached the PM who complimented him saying, "that's quite a good imitation".
India!: Sometimes radio hosts can be on the receiving end of pranks themselves. When Australian radio quiz show host Graeme Gilbert asked his listeners to tell him who the Premier of Tasmania was, callers repeatedly called in to answer with "India". Why? A rival radio station told them to do it. Gilbert was not too happy with it.
Royal prank: One of the world's worst pranks lead to the tragic death of British nurse Jacintha Saldanha. Australian radio DJs Mel Grieg and Mike Christian called the hospital Kate Middleton was admitted to after she came down with severe morning sickness. The DJs pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles and were put through by a nurse who had no idea the call was a prank. Days later, she committed suicide.
Car crash prank: The Edge is notorious for pulling pranks, even on their own DJs.
Most recently, the afternoon show, Jono, Ben & Sharyn, pranked Sharyn Casey by faking a car accident involving co-hosts Jono Pryor and Ben Boyce, leaving Casey in tears on air.
