A horrifying video has emerged online of an acrobat performing at a music festival in Spain plummeting over 30 metres to his death.
Pedro Aunion Monroy, a 42-year-old acrobat from Brighton, United Kingdom, died during a Green Day performance at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid on Friday night (local time).
Over 35,000 festival-goers watched in horror as he dangled momentarily under the suspended stage before plummeting down. He died soon after the fall, despite emergency workers’ attempts to save his life, Rolling Stone reports.
He had been living in the UK with his British partner, working as the director of Brighton-based performing arts company In Fact.
Green Day say they didn’t hear about the man’s death until they had performed their set. Following their performance, the US band tweeted: "We just got off stage at Mad Cool Festival to disturbing news. A very brave artist named Pedro lost his life tonight in a tragic accident."
"Our prayers are with his family," they added.
