Ed Sheeran has deleted most of his Twitter account and announced he's not using it anymore following criticism of his cameo on Game of Thrones.
The British pop star appeared as a Lannister soldier in a scene during the hit fantasy TV show's seventh season premiere and caused outrage among some viewers, who took to the internet to complain.
Sheeran deactivated his Twitter account around a day after the show's Monday night premiere (NZ time), before reactivating it a few hours later - sort of.
The 'Shape of You' singer has deleted all of his tweets apart from three from April, 2013 and a series of replies to other celebrities from 2015 and earlier.
Confirming his departure from the micro-blogging service, Sheeran has changed his profile to: "I don't use this anymore, please follow me... on Instagram, lots of love."
His Instagram account has slightly fewerfollowers than his Twitter - 13.9 million versus 14.5 million - and Sheeran indeed continues to post on the photo-sharing service.
One of his most recent Instagram posts teases an upcoming cameo on The Simpsons - which his fans must be hoping doesn't result in another social media withdrawal from the 26-year-old.
