A Sweet Valley High film adaptation is being written by the woman behind Legally Blonde and 10 Things I Hate About You, according to reports.

The popular series of novels by Francine Pascal ran from 1983 - 2003 and was adapted into a TV show in the '90s for four seasons.

Kirsten 'Kiwi' Smith (not a New Zealander), who also has credited to her Ella Enchanted and The House Bunny, is working on a script along with Harper Dill, who is a writer on TV show The Mick.

Over 600 Sweet Valley High novels were released, chronicling the lives of California schoolgirls, identical twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield.

Brittany and Cynthia Daniels, who played the twins on the TV show, turned 40 last year and often pose for photos together on their joint Instagram account.
