The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch has revealed she and her husband Winston are expecting their first baby later this year, with the star admitting she's "terrified" after suffering a miscarriage during her first pregnancy.

The star penned an essay for Glamour magazine, detailing the long road she's suffered to motherhood.

"Here is the only statement regarding my pregnancy that doesn't make me feel like a complete fraud," the 37-year-old actress wrote.

"Melissa is expecting her first child. She is extremely overjoyed, but if she's being honest, due to the fact that she had a miscarriage the last time she was pregnant, she's pretty much terrified at the moment that it will happen again."

Rauch, who plays Dr Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz on the hit sitcom, wrote that her miscarriage was "was one of the most profound sorrows I have ever felt in my life".

She said reading other women's pregnancy announcements while struggling with fertility issues "felt like a tiny stab in the heart."

"It's not that I wasn't happy for these people, but I would think, 'Why are these shiny, carefree, fertile women so easily able to do what I cannot?'"

She said she wanted to send a message to other woman struggling with fertility issues or who have gone through a miscarriage.

"Allow me to leave you with this message: You are not alone... [and], it is perfectly OK to not be OK right now."

The Big Bang Theory's 11th and 12 seasons have been given the green light for filming.
