Rolling Stones legend Ronnie Wood has revealed he was diagnosed with lung cancer three months ago.
Wood, 70, has been a chainsmoker for more than 50 years, and had an anxious wait to see if the cancer had spread.
There was a week when everything hung in the balance and it could have been curtains - time to say goodbye," he told the Daily Mail.
"You never know what is going to happen."
But he says he's relieved he doesn't have to undergo chemotherapy, after having a five-hour operation to remove part of his lung.
"I wasn't going to use that bayonet in my body [and] this hair wasn't going anywhere."
He'll need check-ups every three months from here on.
"They caught it early," he told the Mail.
"I was bloody lucky but then I’ve always had a very strong guardian angel looking out for me. By rights I shouldn’t be here."
He quit smoking in 2016 before his twin daughters were born.
