Transgender members of the United States military will walk the red carpet at the MTV VMAs on Monday afternoon (NZ time).
Last week, MTV issued an invitation to any transgender individuals currently serving.

Six transgender military members will attend the ceremony, including four active duty members and at least one veteran.
The AV Club suggested the transgender troops will likely be honoured in some form of on-air acknowledgement.
MTV's show of support comes a month after President Donald Trump's Twitter announcement that transgender individuals would no longer serve "in any capacity" in the US military.
On Friday, Mr Trump signed a directive banning transgender military recruits.
In a statement MTV president Chris McCarthy said: "Any patriot who is putting their own life at risk to fight for our freedom and stand for equality is a hero at MTV, and to young people everywhere."
The soldiers told Billboard they were humbled by the invitation.
"It is such an honour and I'm so happy to be able to represent the community of trans service members," said Akira Wyatt, a Navy sailor.
The invitees said they were excited to see their favourite artists perform.
"I'm very passionate about Kesha. I love her as a person and an artist," said Sterling Crutcher, an Air Force airman.
This is not the first time MTV has shown solidarity with military members of the LGBT+ community.
In 2010 Lady Gaga attended the ceremony with four soldiers who had left the military because of the controversial 'Don't ask, don't tell' policy, which was repealed the following year.
