Angelina Jolie is set to return to the big screen with Maleficent 2, reprising her role as the titular villain.

For the past year, the Salt star has opted to spend time behind the camera, including a directing credit on what's been called her most personal film to date, First They Killed My Father.

Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter that she took a year off because of her 'family situation'; now, she's ready to act again.

"I am now the breadwinner for the family, so it's time," she told Deadline

The Hollywood Reporter revealed, however, that Jolie's family situation wasn't the only thing to prompt her return to acting, with a lack of passion projects she currently wants to direct also contributing.

While sequels are notorious for under-delivering, Jolie is excited about the next Maleficent film.

"We've been working on the script, and this is going to be a really strong sequel," she told Deadline.

The film is scheduled to release in 2018.
