IT sequel set for September 2019 release

Pennywise the evil clown is due back in cinemas in less than two years as New Line and Warner Bros have set the It sequel for release on September 6, 2019.

Stephen King's 1986 novel focuses on a group of friends in a fictional Maine community that battles the small town's demon as kids, and then again as adults.

The blockbuster movie, which opened September 8, centres on the children, while the upcoming film will follow them into adulthood.

Since its debut earlier this month, It has shattered numerous records, earning $US266.1 million in the US to date and $US478.1 million globally.

It stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise and child actors Finn Wolfhard, Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Jack Dylan Grazer, Chosen Jacobs, Wyatt Oleff and Jeremy Ray Taylor.
