Kiwi singer and model, Alicia Kirkpatrick, died in her mother's arms after suffering a severe asthma attack in August, it has been revealed.
The 29-year-old mother of three was the lead singer in reggae band Foundation and her death came just three months after a near-death experience, also caused by asthma.
Her mother, Michelle Brown, has opened up to Fairfax about the final moments of her daughter's life.
"It just happened so fast... she got up and said 'Mum, we've got to go'," Ms Brown says.
"Two minutes down the road I was doing CPR on her in the car. Her three girls were in the car... she passed away in my arms."
Ms Brown says her daughter was a beautiful person "inside and out" and that losing her is "not fair".
"She was my rock, my heart, my world, and my best friend. I'm so lost without her... I'll never get over it."
Following the asthma attack that almost killed her in May, Ms Kirkpatrick took to Facebook to express her thanks for the "second chance".
She began modelling at age 14, but moved into music later in life, recording her first album in 1999 before joining Foundation.
Ms Kirkpatrick's tangi was held at Takipū marae and she is buried at Taruheru cemetery in Gisborne.
A Givealittle page has been set up to help support her daughters Maia, 11, Jaezahn, 9, and Coco, 16 months.
