Rebel Wilson may be celebrating after winning the highest defamation pay-out in the country's history yesterday, but surprising new information about how much she was paid for early Hollywood roles has emerged as a consequence.

Wilson successfully won AUS$4.5 million (NZD$5 million) after the jury found articles published in Woman's Day, Australian Women's Weekly, New Weekly and OK! unfairly painted her as a serial liar who'd faked her way to Hollywood.

"Today was the end of a long and hard court battle against Bauer Media who viciously tried to take me down with a series of false articles," she tweeted Wednesday.

However one of the most surprising things that has emerged from the court process is evidence of the pittance the Aussie funny woman was paid for several of her earlier Hollywood roles.

For her breakout role in 2010's smash hit Bridesmaids, where she played Kristin Wigg's nightmare roommate, the actress was paid only AUS$3759 (NZD$4147).

While the numbers were higher for subsequent roles, Wilson still was only dabbling in the thousands for her work in several large comedies.

  • Pitch Perfect: US$165,000 (NZD$227,878)
  • Ice Age: Continental Drift: US$70,000 (NZD$96,677)
  • What to Expect When You're Expecting: US$75,000 (NZD$103,582)
  • Bachelorette: $US45,000 (NZD$62,151)
  • Struck By Lightning: $US20,000 (NZD$27,622)
  • Small Apartments: $US5000 (NZD$6905)

The fame garnered from these roles meant that she did go on score millions for her later roles; over NZD$2 million for her own sitcom Super Fun Night in 2013-14 and over NZD$4 million for the Pitch Perfect sequel in 2015.
