David Grohl is returning to late-night television, filling in as a guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday (local time).

The Foo Fighters frontman is joining a bevy of stars, including Shaquille O'Neal, Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence, all filling in for regular host Kimmel this week.

The talk show host will be away preparing for six-month-old son William's second heart surgery next week. Kimmel's son was born with a rare heart defect in May, leading to an emotional monologue from Kimmel about the importance of affordable healthcare.

On Tuesday's show, Grohl is set to interview actress Kristen Bell and rocker Alice Cooper, who is also scheduled to perform.

Grohl does have some late-night TV hosting experience - he previously filled in for Chelsea Handler for a handful of Chelsea Lately tapings, first in December 2012 and then for a week of shows in February 2013.
