Grand Designs NZ 2017: Moving Mansion

  • 10/10/2017

The latest episode of Grand Designs NZ features a quake-damaged mansion moved from Christchurch to Queenstown and restored to its former glory.

Jamie and Melissa originally went to buy just a staircase from the villa, but ended up buying the whole home, before undertaking the huge task of transporting it overland and then renovating it.

A modern family theatre was added as the one contemporary addition in what's otherwise an authentic recreation of a grand old mansion.

"On approach, the house is breath-taking," says Grand Designs NZ host Chris Moller.

"It sits well in its new surroundings, rising magnificently before the majestic Nevis Bluff.

"Jamie and Melissa have worked hard to preserve the original feel of the house... their attention to detail - inside and out - have returned the house to its original Victorian aesthetic. It looks gracious, beautiful and stately."

The full episode can be viewed on ThreeNow.co.nz and photos from inside the home can be viewed below.

Grand Designs NZ is broadcast on Three on Tuesdays at 7:30pm.
