An artist known for writing and singing some of the decade's most radio friendly pop hits has announced they’re transitioning from male to female.

Teddy Geiger became a teen sensation when after releasing 'For You I Will' in 2009.

The John Mayer-esque song topped the charts in countries around the world.

Geiger then moved on to write songs for Maroon 5, Shawn Mendes, James Blunt and even One Direction.

Now 29, Geiger made the announcement on Instagram after a fan asked about his changing appearance.

Geiger replied in a comment; "Because you asked nicely, I'm transitioning".

The pop star said they had spoken to close friends and family about it, which gave them the courage to start the process.

Geiger ended the announcement by saying; "Love it or hate it, this is who I have been for a long time. I love you guys".
