Action hero, now real-life hero Harrison Ford has helped rescue a woman who ran off the road in California on the weekend.

The Blade Runner actor, 75, was one of several drivers who clambered down an embankment to help after her car careened off the side of the highway on Saturday (local time), TMZ reports.

The driver was transported was to a local hospital but only suffered minor injuries, according to local police.

It is understood that Ford was driving behind her at the time. Witnesses at the scene snapped photos of the star helping out and chatting to paramedics.

The Sun reports that plane enthusiast Ford was leaving the small airport at Santa Paula, which is used by many local flyers.

The keen pilot was injured in an accident himself in 2015, after the vintage plane he was piloting crash-landed on a golf course in California.

It's not the first time Ford has taken traffic issues into his own hands. Earlier this year the actor jumped out of his limo and turned traffic cop, as he forcefully directed cars out of a line of traffic in New York City.
