A Married At First Sight NZ star says he is "embarrassed and ashamed" after offensive messages he sent to a woman on Tinder were made public.

Andrew Jury sent a series of vulgar messages to Korean-Kiwi pianist Maria Mo
on Tinder in 2015 after she rebuffed his advances.

"So get this: last night I was hanging out with friends who watch Married at First Sight. I was half-paying attention when one of the contestants caught my eye, because he looked suspiciously like a prick who sent me abusive, racist and misogynist messages on Tinder in 2015," Mo (who goes by the surname Meaux on Facebook) wrote. She then posted screenshots of the messages.

The conversation started by his asking if she'd like to satisfy his "Asian fetish", but it descended into him calling her "ugly" and a "whore", among other slurs.

"Shave your head you mutant," Andrew ended the messages.

Andrew released a statement on Monday evening about the messages.

"It has come to my attention that you have received some rather nasty messages on a Tinder exchange I had with someone two years ago," he said.

"I'm so embarrassed and ashamed. I would take it back if I could, but as I deleted my all dating apps ages ago I can't apologise to the individual in person.

"I hope everyone can forgive and forget as I'm a new man these days. "

The builder from Auckland has been deemed one of 'the nice guys' by fans of the show. He and his wife Vicky remain together in the experiment at the time of writing. They've faced issues over their differing levels of affection throughout the series.
