The Bachelor NZ's Zac Franich and Viarni Bright announce they're over

The Bachelor NZ couple Zac Franich and Viarni Bright have announced they’re calling it quits.

After six months together, the couple announced their break-up on their respective social media pages on Wednesday evening.

"We’ve had plenty of laughs and have shared some pretty special memories together in that time. However.. in life, some things just aren’t meant to be..." Franich wrote in his Instagram post.

"As much as we wanted it to be forever, with heavy hearts we have decided to go our separate ways," Bright wrote on her post.

"Thank you to everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the love shown to us along the way."

Franich chose Bright, an account manager from Mount Maunganui, over runner-up Lily McManus, from Wellington during the season three finale in May.

Franich told Women’s Day in June that Bright "makes me feel like I’m not alone".

"She has this way of making me feel special - it’s something I adore."

But they have been open about challenges faced during their time together and had sought counselling to deal with the pressures of life after reality television.

In September, Bright took to Instagram to hit back angrily at rumours they had broken up.

"Just because I don’t post couple photos 24/7 doesn’t mean Zac and I aren’t together and happy," she wrote. "Because actually we are."

Mediaworks has issued a statement on the break-up, with a spokesperson saying they are "really sorry to hear the news".

"Like many of you, we have been a part of their amazing journey over the course of this year, but unfortunately, not all relationships work out. We have the utmost respect for their decision - they are both lovely people with bright futures ahead and we sincerely wish them all the best."
