The late Carrie Fisher's dog reportedly recognised her during the premiere screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Gary Fisher, a French bulldog with a floppy tongue, was Carrie Fisher's frequent companion.

After the star's tragic passing last year, Gary was adopted by her former assistant Corby McCoin.

At the premiere screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the pup sat on Ms McCoin's lap to watch his mum playing Princess Leia.

"His ears perked up every time she was on screen," Ms McCoin told an ABC7 reporter.

Rian Johnson, the director of The Last Jedi, had dedicated the premiere screening to Fisher.

Gary is active on social media and has almost 170,000 followers on Instagram.

Fans of Gary and Carrie Fisher were very emotional, after hearing about what happened at the screening.
