A prominent Australian guitarist has landed himself in hot water, after he lamented that women no longer consider a slap on the rear a legitimate compliment.
Kirk Pengilly, who is best known as guitarist for rock band INXS, made the controversial comments, while appearing at a Movember charity event in Melbourne on Thursday night.

When asked about the rise in sexual misconduct claims brought against the likes of Don Burke and Harvey Weinstein, Pengilly bemoaned just how radically times have changed over the past 50 years.
"I really loved the '60s and '70s, when life was so simple, and you could slap a woman on the butt and it was taken as a compliment, not as sexual harassment," he said.
He reportedly added that men were starting to feel as though they could no longer compliment a woman, without it potentially being seen as sexual harassment.
The quote has caused a fair amount of outrage in Australia, which has been rocked by fresh sexual misconduct accusations against some of its icons in the past week.
Australian actor Geoffrey Rush is alleged to have behaved inappropriately towards a fellow cast member during a play in 2015, while TV presenter Don Burke is facing more than 50 accusations of sexual assault, harassment and bullying.
