Stranger Things renewed for third season

Sci-fi phenomenon Stranger Things is coming back for a third season, it has been revealed.

Netflix, the studio behind the series, announced its renewal on Twitter with references to two of its most beloved characters.

The announcement won't be a major surprise to many of the show's fans, considering Stranger Things' significant commercial and critical success, but it will still generate excitement.

The final episode, while fairly conclusive plot-wise, hinted there were more tales to tell from Hawkins, the fictional town cursed by the presence of the so-called Upside Down.

While Netflix does not release streaming figures for any of its own productions, Stranger Things season two was generally thought to be one of the most-watched releases of the year.

No release date has yet been given for the new season.
