Debra Messing calls out E! while being interviewed by E! on Golden Globes red carpet

The 2018 Golden Globes were about calling out sexual misconduct allegations and gender imbalances, leading to a slightly awkward interaction on the red carpet.

Actress Debra Messing caused a stir, when she called out the E! Network for gender pay discrepancy - while being interviewed on E!

Speaking to E! News presenter Giuliana Rancicon the red carpet, the Will and Grace actress said she was "shocked" that the network didn't believe in equal pay.

"I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn't believe in paying their female co-hosts the same as their male co-hosts," she said, before adding that she misses former host Catt Sadler, who quit the network last month over the pay gap between her and Daily Pop co-host Jason Kennedy.

"We want diversity, we want intersectional gender parity and we want equal pay," said Messing.

"I am wearing black to thank and honour all of the brave whistle-blowers, who came forward to share their stories of harassment and assault and discrimination," Messing explained.

"So we stand with [Sadler] and that's something that can change tomorrow," Messing explained. "We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men."

Rancic attempted to brush over the awkward interaction, saying "that's really what this movement is all about", without directly answering the actress' comment about Sadler.

Eva Longoria also added her own comments about Sadler later, saying: "We support gender equity and equal pay, and we hope E! follows that lead with Catt [Sadler], as well.

"We stand with you, Catt."
