Emoji symbols with dirty hidden meanings

Warning: This article contains sexual references.

Emoji have quickly risen as a language of the young - but many of them are now taking on dirty hidden meanings.

Recently HighSpeedInternet.com ran an international survey among major English-speaking countries, to better understand what emojis mean to people around the world.

It revealed a generational gap between the interpretations of certain emoji.

So while they seem innocent enough, it's probably best to be careful who you send these symbols to.

Eggplant

This symbol is more frequently a symbol of male genitalia than it is of the actual vegetable. The banana symbol is also frequently used in the same way. The majority of 18 to 24-year-olds in the survey saw the eggplant emoji as a sexual reference, while those over 25 said it's a vegetable.

Peach

Another inappropriate food - this one often represents the bottom. The study found it was other countries who used it inappropriately, while Kiwis innocently saw it as the fruit.

Fire

This symbol is often used to let someone know they are good-looking (hot) on social media.

Water drops

This symbol can be interpreted as an orgasm. When a fist symbol comes first, it can take on the meaning of masturbation. The study found older people saw it as rain.

Smirk face

This one is used as a flirting face.

Tongue

This symbol is frequently used as a hint towards oral sex. The pointing-finger emoji, followed by the 'ok' finger emoji is also known as a symbol of sex acts.
