Jeremy Wells has been confirmed as the second new host of Seven Sharp, joining Hilary Barry.

The pair are replacing Mike Hosking and Toni Street, who abruptly left the TVNZ show in December, 2017.

Wells has been on New Zealand TV screens since the late '90s, when he first appeared as Mikey Havoc's sidekick Newsboy.

He went on to present Eating Media Lunch and The Unauthorised History Of New Zealand, both boundary-pushing, satirical shows that proved controversial.

"It's nice to be a part of a grown up, credible, ratings juggernaut rather than the low rating, late night schedule fillers I'm usually involved in," Wells said in a statement published by TVNZ.

Ironically, in recent times Wells is well known for parodying Hosking - the broadcaster he's replacing - with his 'Like Mike' comedy skits.

Barry is a former Newshub presenter who worked for 23 years at Three, formerly TV3, before moving to TVNZ and hosting its Breakfast show for 2017.
