Roger Waters praises Lorde at Auckland concert

Roger Waters reportedly paid tribute to Lorde at his first concert in New Zealand in six years, praising her decision to "stand up for the Palestinian people".

The Pink Floyd legend performed at Auckland's Spark Arena on Wednesday night, as part of his Us + Them tour.

It was Waters' first opportunity to celebrate Lorde cancelling her concert in Israel in front of a Kiwi audience.

"I can't let this chance go by without a hat tip to one of your musicians... who stood up for... the Palestinian people," Waters told the crowd, reports Stuff.

"I'm really proud of her and if anyone knows her, tell her to come to one of the gigs. You're a strong, brave woman and I admire you."

Waters has strong opinions about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and often acts as a spokesperson for the BDS Movement, which urges artists to boycott Israel until it complies with international law.

Late last year, Lorde faced a backlash from human rights campaigners and fans after announcing a concert in Te Aviv.

She later decided to cancel the concert, which Waters openly admired on Twitter at the time.

Waters performs at Spark Arena again on Friday night, before appearing in Dunedin on January 30.
