Death, whether in real-life or Westeros, was on the minds of Wikipedia users in 2017.

The popular online encyclopaedia has revealed its most-viewed articles from last year.

Topping the list is Deaths in 2017, with readers catching up on the lives of Chuck Berry, Chester Bennington and Adam West.

Game of Thrones made two appearances - its seventh season coming in fourth, and the show's main page in sixth.

Donald Trump, Elizabeth II and Meghan Markle rounded out the top five.

In a blog entry, Wikipedia's Ed Erhart said it showed the "enduring power of Anglophilia".

"This year, millions used the free encyclopaedia to learn more Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, and the engagement of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry," he said.

"Anglophilia also feeds into this year's other theme: television and film, via The Crown and Victoria. In just the top 25 most-viewed articles, over 200 million people used Wikipedia to learn about the newest shows or as a second screen."

Queen Elizabeth II's sister Margaret came in 37th, and her husband Prince Philip in 44th, both buoyed by the power of Netflix's The Crown.

Outside of entertainment and royalty, other entries in the top 25 include cryptocurrency bitcoin, tech mogul Elon Musk and 'Millennials'.
