Since revealing last April that his then-newborn son, William "Billy" Kimmel had to have open heart surgery, Jimmy Kimmel has been moved to tears several times, especially over the state of American healthcare,
But this time it was on DeGeneres' show that he got emotional, as she announced she had arranged for a room in Los Angeles Children's Hospital to be named after Billy.
"We are friends, and I write to you a lot saying, 'Once again, brilliant monologue,' " DeGeneres, 60, told Kimmel, 50. ""You get very emotional, and I love that about you. Everything you're doing on the show you're using your voice for good, and you're saying a lot of important things."
DeGeneres then showed Kimmel a video of the new plaque, surrounded by several of the hospital's surgical staff.
"We have a surprise for you. We called our friends at Children's Hospital L.A., including Billy's surgeon, and we have named one of the rooms of the heart institute floor in honour of Billy. That will forever be the Billy Kimmel room."
DeGeneres went on to announce that several of Billy's nurses were sitting in the audience, to which Kimmel joking shouted "You should be at work!"
Kimmel is set to host the Academy Awards this Sunday (local time).
