Actress and activist Rose McGowan has been filmed giving an emotional, foul-mouthed outburst after a trans woman heckled her at a live reading of her new book Brave.

The Planet Terror star was accused of "doing nothing" for trans women at the Union Square Barnes & Noble event on Wednesday night (local time), in an exchange that quickly became heated.

As security guided the shouting woman out, McGowan gave her the fingers, saying, "Shut up, you're so boring."

When the evictee then chanted "white cis feminism", McGowan fired up.

"Don't label me, sister. Don't put your labels on me. Don't you f**king do that. Do not put your label on me. I don't come from your planet. Leave me alone. I do not subscribe to your rules. I do not subscribe to your language."

As her voice rose and started breaking, the crowd started clapping and she stood up from her chair.

"You do not put labels on me or anybody. Step the f**k back. What I do for the f**king world, and you should be f**king grateful. So shut the f**k up. Get off my back. What have you done? I know what I've done, God damn it."

McGowan then sat back down and was quiet for a moment as various audience members shouted in support of her.

"I'm not worried. I'm f**ing mad with the lies," McGowan then yelled.

"I'm mad at the stereotypes. I'm mad that you put s**t on me because I have a f**king vagina and I'm white or I'm black or I'm yellow or I'm purple. F**k off. All of us want to say it. I just do."

McGowan went on to say she believes trans women are women, but there wasn't a "network devoted to their death", which she alleged there is for non-trans women.

"There's an entire show called ID channel, a network, dedicated to women getting abused, murdered, sexualised, violated, and you're a part of that too, sister. It's the same," said McGowan.

"There's not a network here devoted to your f**king death. There's not advertisers advertising tampons with a camera lovingly going up a girl's body as she's being lovingly raped and strangled. Piss off. And until you can collect that f**ing cheque, back up.

"Stop boxing everybody into s**t. I didn't agree to your cis f**king world. Okay? F**k off."

Following the incident, McGowan has used Twitter to hit out at the Barnes & Noble store, its security and the audience for "doing nothing".

She also attacked Variety for reporting on the incident, and posted a report alleging the trans heckler has been accused of sexual assault from multiple women.

McGowan, 44, released her memoir Brave on January 30. It includes details about her alleged sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein.
