Veteran actor John Mahoney has died aged 77, according to an official at a theatre he worked at.
The Frasier star was reportedly in hospice care in Chicago when he died on Sunday (local time).
He was a longtime ensemble member at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, having joined the company in 1979, and an official at the theatre confirmed his death on Twitter.
Mahoney starred in NBC sitcom Frasier for 11 seasons, playing the titular character's father, Martin Crane. He was nominated for two Emmys and two Golden Globes for his role.
He won a Tony award in 1986 for his performance in The House of Blue Leaves.
