Robbie Williams picks the new leader of the National Party

Politics and pop intertwined on Tuesday as Robbie Williams weighed in on who should be the new leader of New Zealand's National party.

The pop star is in the country to perform two shows; one in Auckland on Wednesday before heading down to perform at Forsyth Barr stadium in Dunedin on Saturday.

At a press conference, Williams was surprised when Newshub's Ryan Bridge told him he had come on an important political day for the nation, given former Prime Minister Bill English had stepped down as National's leader.

"There are a couple of people who are gunning for his job," Bridge told Williams.

"I'm not sucking his c**k," Williams immediately jumped in.

However, he did weigh in on who he thinks should take the job, based purely on a selection of A4 photos.

Mark Mitchell

"He seems friendly and trustworthy, I would trust him."

Simon Bridges

"Mmmm, there's a bit of closet stuff going on there, I think, isn't there? Am I right, ladies and gentlemen?"

Amy Adams

"She looks as though she would get the job done, and she would take no prisoners. Na... so far I'm going with the first guy the big friendly smiley guy".

Paula Bennett

Bridge pointed out that it was probably an unfair photo of the former deputy leader, to which Williams replied, "Yeah, it's probably not her best photo;  I've got lots of photos like that. I'm thinking... I... no."

Nikki Kaye

"Mmmm, she looks like a few exes of mine, so no."

Judith Collins

"No."

The conclusion?

"Mark Mitchell. He's your man."

Only time will tell if Williams has predicted the leadership change correctly.
