Pop band the Spice Girls have confirmed getting back together to spice up fans' lives with "new opportunities".

A reunion has long been rumoured; however, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham was not going to be involved. But now even she has agreed, at least enough to pose for a new photo with her old band mates.

"We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for the Spice Girls," the group says in a statement.

"The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together."

In addition to Beckham, the band was comprised of Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Geri "Ginger Spice" Horner, Mel "Scary Spice" Brown and Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm.

Their recent get-together took place at Horner's home in Hertfordshire, UK.

"We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together," the group says.

"We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of the Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations."

An unnamed source told UK gossip publication The Sun Beckham agreed to a reunion "after a long period of negotiation".

"It's very exciting because she has always been adamant she wouldn't go back," they added.

The Spice Girls shot to fame in 1996 and were last seen together in 2012 at the premiere of West End musical Viva Forever!.

Their passionate, global fan base now have more reason than ever to let out a hearty "zig-a-zig-ah".
