Ed Sheeran might have reached peak Ed Sheeran.

The 'Shape of You' singer has sparked speculation he may be planning to marry his fianceé Cherry Seaborn in a chapel he's building on grounds of his country mansion.

The Times reports Sheeran, 27, lodged plans for a Saxon-style flint church a few yards from his Suffolk home, just days after announcing his engagement to his long-time girlfriend.

According to public planning documents published in The Sun, the 32-foot (10-metre) tall chapel can host a congregation of up to 24 and is being built by architects who have previously worked on Windsor Castle and London's Somerset House.

A source close to the couple told The Daily Mail that "even though Ed is one of the world's biggest stars he does like to do things privately, like his engagement".

"Having his wedding on his own land would mean they could celebrate their big day with just their nearest and dearest and then head back to the main house of a big party after," they said.

In the document Sheeran writes that he wishes to build the place of worship so he has somewhere to "retreat for contemplation and prayer".

He also says high-profile house guests would use it to "regenerate their spiritual strength."

Sheeran met his fianceé at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk. They reconnected in 2015 and announced their engagement in January this year.
