Kanye West calls Parkland shooting survivor Emma González his 'hero', who responds by shutting him down

Kanye West's latest Twitter spree has seen him align himself with Donald Trump, post private text messages from his celebrity friends and name Parkland shooting survivor and activist Emma González as his "hero".

In the midst of his flurry of political tweets that triggered widespread outrage and controversy, West also posted a selfie in the style of a picture of González, captioned "inspired by Emma".

He probably wasn't expecting her response.

González didn't acknowledge West by name in her own tweet, instead sharing a picture of James Shaw Jr, who risked his life to end a recent Waffle House shooting in Tennessee.

She imitated the 'Gold Digger' hitmaker's Twitter language and formatting - even down to the extra space he included between words.

González captioned the image: "my hero  James Shaw Jr."

The teen activist has been praised for taking the high road with her subtle dig, re-directing attention to her fight for gun law reform in the wake of the latest wave of mass shootings in the US.

West's initial Trump-related tweets reportedly lost him 9 million followers in 10 minutes - including family members Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner.
