Kygo performs moving tribute to 'biggest inspiration' Avicii

Norwegian DJ Kygo has closed his Coachella set with an emotional tribute to Avicii.

The EDM superstar, whose real name was Tim Bergling, died on April 20 (local time) after battling health problems for years. He was 28.

Avicii stopped performing live in 2016 after suffering acute pancreatitis and having his gall bladder and appendix removed.

He was found dead in a resort in Muscat, Oman, where he was on holiday at the time. His death is not believed to be suspicious.

Since his death, many musicians have paid homage to the Swedish DJ and music producer whose work helped to bring EDM into mainstream popularity.

Kygo ended his Saturday night performance at California music festival Coachella by playing one of Avicii's last hit songs, 'Without You'.

Beforehand he told the crowd that Avicii was his "biggest musical inspiration".

"He was the reason I started making electronic music, so I don't think I would've been on this stage tonight if it wasn't for him."

He asked the audience to help him honour the late DJ by enjoying the performance of his own favourite Avicii song.

"I know he's inspired millions of other producers out there," he said.

"In honour of Avicii I want you to dance and sing along and let's celebrate the life of a true musical genius."

Avicii's body will be flown back to Sweden later this week.
