The next Star Wars character to get their own spin-off movie is Boba Fett, according to reports.

James Mangold, the filmmaker behind Logan and Walk the Line, is set to write and direct the film, Variety says it's learned "from several sources".

The masked, jetpack-powered bounty hunter's film will be the third spin-off since Disney acquired Star Wars, following 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story, which was released this week.

New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison voiced the character of Boba Fett in an official re-edit of the original Star Wars trilogy, and played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.

Jango was Boba's father.

Previously, there were reports that the next Star Wars spin-off would focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Boba Fett first debuted in 1980's Star Wars: Episode VI - The Empire Strikes Back.
