Dancing With The Stars contestant Gilda Kirkpatrick has lashed out at television critic Steve Braunias, telling him his show review "added nothing to society".

The ex-'Real Housewife' penned the tweet in response to Braunias' scathing review of the first episode, in which he said the show was "more like dancing with the nobodies".

"As judged by nobodies, co-hosted by a nobody," he added, about the reality show starring Bachelor alumni Naz Khanjani, Zac Franich, Newshub's Samantha Hayes and childrens' show star, Suzy Cato.

Fellow contestant Kirkpatrick tweeted defending herself and her peers on Wedneday.

"Keep on watching and writing about nobodies that you spend time analysing because these nobodies are the reason you're getting paid to work," she wrote.

"This article of yours added nothing to society but every one of the people you talk about is supporting a great cause."

The stars of the show have chosen a charity which the prize money will be donated to.

Braunias acknowledged Kirkpatrick without naming her by retweeting her and adding, "A contestant from Dancing with the Stars responds".

The next episode of DWTS NZ will air 7pm, Sunday on Three. Previous episodes are viewable on ThreeNow.
