Dancing With The Stars NZ: Sam Hayes shakes off jitters with flirty jive

  • 13/05/2018

Newshub Live at 6pm presenter Sam Hayes has shown she's still in it to win it on Dancing With The Stars NZ, recovering from last week's jitters with an impressive jive.

The flirty performance with partner Aaron Gilmore saw Hayes prance across the dance floor to Florence + The Machine's 'Dog Days Are Over', for the show's go-to Jam Song week.

Once again, the routine has a major crowd-pleasing move; this time, Hayes back-flips over Gilmore's arm mid-dance.

Hayes' first foray into the Latin dance style faced some harsh criticism from the judges, who called her out for appearing uncomfortable during her sensual samba last week - an issue Hayes readily agreed with, admitting the dance was far outside her comfort zone.

But she appears to have taken their comments on board this week and it's paid off.

She's back in the highscoring position she secured with her opening foxtrot, getting 6, 7 and 7 from the judges for a total of 20.

Judge Julz Tocker said she and Gilmore were like a cute Disney couple, adding that the routine was "clean" - but he said Hayes needs to work on her leg action and be more vulnerable.

Viewers can help keep their favourite dancer in the competition by texting their first name to 3333 - each text costs 99c and net proceeds go to that star's chosen charity.

DWTS NZ airs Sundays 7pm and Mondays 7.30pm on Three, and all episodes can be viewed again on ThreeNow.
