Mai FM has taken out one of the top categories at the New Zealand Radio Awards, winning Station of the Year - Network.

The station was nominated alongside fellow MediaWorks station More FM and Radio New Zealand.

During his acceptance speech, Mai FM programme director Philip Bell took the chance to thank Ngāti Whātua-o-Ōrākei, who originally founded the station.

"I really want to thank Ngāti Whātua... 25 years ago they decided to do something for Tāmaki Makaurau and now we're station of the year," he said.

It was a successful night for MediaWorks, who took out many other categories including Best Voice Talent, the Associated Craft Award and Best Music Non-Breakfast Solo Host-Network.

The Newshub/RadioLIVE team secured two awards: Best News Story - Team Coverage for reporting on the Port Hills fire, and AM Show producer/reporter Shannon Redstall won Best New Broadcaster - On Air.
