Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that he's working on a fifth Rambo film, which will see the iconic character slaughter a Mexican crime cartel.

Leaked plot details describe a "violent descent into hell" as Rambo "brings down a vicious crime lord".

"Something wicked is coming this way," Stallone captioned an Instagram post with a promotional image for Rambo V.

The film is scheduled for release in Autumn, 2019, according to the post.

In 2008, Stallone reprised the Rambo franchise for a particularly bloody sequel which saw the Vietnam War veteran lead a band of mercenaries rescuing a group of Christian missionaries from Burma.

It ended with Rambo returning home to the US, to finally visit his father in Arizona.

According to details obtained by Screen Daily, Rambo V will see the anti-hero struggling with PTSD while living on a ranch.

"When long-time family friend and estate manager Maria informs Rambo that her grand-daughter has gone missing after crossing into Mexico for a party, he sets off with her to find the youngster," writes Screen Daily.

"What ensues is a violent descent into hell as Rambo uncovers a sex-trafficking ring. He teams up with a journalist whose half-sister has also been kidnapped and must deploy all his skills to save the girls and bring down a vicious crime lord."

LADbible posted a story about the leaked details, noting it "sounds like the most violent movie yet".

Other fans have also taken to social media to express their excitement over the news.
