Ryan Reynolds and James Gunn agree to Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy crossover

Ryan Reynolds has publicly asked Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn for a Deadpool crossover - and he's agreed.

The bromantic exchange took place on Twitter and while it's not a sure sign a crossover movie will eventuate, Disney's upcoming acquisition of Fox means it's definitely a possibility.

Gunn kicked things off by saying he "loved" Deadpool 2, before Reynolds thanked him and asked about a crossover.

"Yes, please," Gunn replied.

Deadpool joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is much more likely than ever before.

Fox owns film rights to the Marvel properties X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four. Disney's plan to acquire Fox will mean that those properties are owned by the masters of the MCU - so crossovers would be entirely possible.

Over the weekend, Deadpool 2 added to its record-breaking global box office haul, rising to a total of US$498 million so far.
