Actress Kristen Stewart has staged a protest by going barefoot on the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Films Festival.
Stewart was attending the premiere of Spike Lee's film BlackKkKlansman, and paused while posing in a silver Chanel dress to take off her black Louboutin heels.
She walked up the steps into the venue barefoot, holding her shoes in her hands.
The move appears to be in protest over the dress code at the festival, which insists that women wear high heels. Stewart has previously spoken out against the controversial dress code.
At the event in 2016 she criticised the double standards in how men and women are treated at the festival, after a number of women were reportedly turned away from the premiere of Todd Haynes' Carol for wearing flats.
"Things have to change immediately. It has become really obvious that if [a man and I] were walking the red carpet together and someone stopped me and said, 'Excuse me, young lady, you’re not wearing heels. You cannot come in.' Then [I’m going to say], ‘Neither is my friend. Does he have to wear heels?," she said according to Vanity Fair.
"It can work both ways. You simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels."
