Dancing With The Stars NZ: Sam Hayes' tantalising Argentine tango sets dancefloor alight

  • 25/06/2018

Newshub Live at 6pm presenter Sam Hayes has wowed the judges and crowd at Dancing With The Stars NZ once again, this time with a thrilling Argentine tango.

It was her second dance for the week, after a playful cha-cha with partner Aaron Gilmore on Sunday night.

The tango was performed to Gotan Project's 'Santa Maria' for the 'Most Memorable Year' theme, which Hayes revealed was 2015 - the year her father recovered from bowel cancer surgery.

He'd made the trip up from Milton, south of Dunedin, to wach her perform on Monday night.

There were plenty of tricks in the tango to get the audience cheering, starting off with Hayes entwined in Gilmore's legs as they headed down the stairs and onto the main dancefloor.

It wasn't just the audience impressed by the sharp routine.

"Well my sexy, sultry Sam is back... I loved your beautiful leg lines and your lifts," judge Rachel said. "I definitely want to see you in that final."

Hayes revealed the tango was the dance she was most looking forward to all competition, and it looks like it was well worth the wait.

She was awarded 9, 9 and 9 for the dance, totalling 27. Combined with her cha-cha score, the newsreader ended the semi-finals with a grand total of 50.

Viewers can help keep their favourite dancer in the competition by texting their first name to 3333 - each text costs 99c and net proceeds go to that star's chosen charity.

The DWTS NZ finale airs Sunday, July 1 at 7pm on Three, and all episodes can be viewed again on ThreeNow.
