According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dennison will play a supporting role alongside Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon's Ziyi Zhang and Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown. The film will be directed by Adam Wingard.
Pop culture site That Hashtag Show reports the lead role has been offered to Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand.
Dennison scored his first acting role in the 2013 film Shopping, after his school held open auditions.
From there, he worked with Waititi for an NZTA ad about the dangers of driving while under the influence of marijuana.
