Dancing With The Stars NZ: Sam Hayes a 'waltzing goddess' during emotional dance

  • 03/06/2018

Newshub Live at 6pm presenter Sam Hayes has headed back to the ballroom on Dancing With The Stars NZ this week, but this time there was a twist.

The theme was Trio Week - meaning instead of two dancers together on the stage, a third dancer joined each pair.

In this case Daniel Wilks joined Hayes and regular partner Aaron Gilmore for a Viennese waltz to A Great Big World's heartwrenching 'Say Something'.

During the show, Hayes described Wilks as acting as a "guardian angel" in the dance's storyline.

The intimate performance saw the trio float across the stage, with Hayes dressed in an ethereal white ballgown, culminating in the 6'5 Wilks bringing Hayes above his head in an ultimate final lift.

For the third week in a row, the judges were left impressed.

"I thought you were a waltzing goddess tonight," judge Camilla said.

"This style suits you so well - that was so soft, so elegant and so beautiful," added Rachel.

Hayes was awarded 8, 9 and 9 for her performance, totalling an impressive 26.

Viewers can help keep their favourite dancer in the competition by texting their first name to 3333 - each text costs 99c and net proceeds go to that star's chosen charity.

DWTS NZ airs Sundays 7pm and Mondays 7.30pm on Three, and all episodes can be viewed again on ThreeNow.
